Linda Malcomb
Artist’s Statement
I was always the kid who could draw in grade school, but didn’t think much about it and didn’t cultivate it in my higher education. Chronic deep depression starting in my early teens initiated a spiritual quest to find a reason to live, and this became the driving constant in my adult life.
I reconnected with art in my thirties and began painting landscapes, still lifes, and macro nature images, but there was always a nagging itch to experience something deeper; I just didn’t know what. My love of physical movement had developed into a yoga practice, leading to teacher training and a deepening passion for spiritual inquiry and exploration. As my yoga practice deepened, the paintings began changing into what felt like a dialogue with color and kinesthetic brush movements, resulting in images that I had no words for until I “saw” the shapes and forms during svasana (final relaxation) in a yoga training and recognized that I was painting movements of energy.
I paint from a place of meditation and inquiry, looking to invoke in the viewer a sense of space, movement, and connection, to a feeling inside deeper than human language; a recognition of mystery and Presence where the heart can dive in, drink deeply, and be nourished.
I live on a beautiful private lake in Lunenburg, Massachusetts with a wonderful husband and 3 cats, have 2 great adult children, have been a graphic designer for 40 years, a yoga teacher since 1999, and a life coach for a year, and a seeker of happiness and understanding all my 6+ decades.
