Julia R. Berkley | Julia R. Berkley Fine Art
Julia R. Berkley creates mixed-media art that is evocative of organic forms and landscape. Her artwork can be found in private and corporate collections, including the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, as well as Children’s Hospital and UMass Memorial Medical Center in Massachusetts. She has exhibited at the Danforth Museum, the Fitchburg Art Museum, and the Concord Art Association, among others.
Julia was born in New Jersey, raised in Pennsylvania, and migrated to New England during her college years. A graduate of Wesleyan University, she worked in the creative end of publishing before finding her own artistic vision. She is a member of several regional associations and participates regularly in open and juried exhibitions in the Boston area.
Julia is married to the author Jeffrey S. Cramer, and is the mother of two formerly-unschooled young women. She lives west of Boston.
Artist’s Statement
My art is joyfully created by tapping into deep-seated visual impressions acquired during childhood and beyond. The resulting paintings and collages most often revolve around themes of landscape, with focus moving from sky to horizon to underground and everything in between.
What emerges above the horizon line? What lies beneath the surface of land, both literally and figuratively?
My approach is intuitive, using texture, color and pattern to explore these themes. In addition, I hope to bring a healing, uplifting quality that resonates with viewers in their personal and professional spaces.
